I'm a slacker -- the slackiest of slackers in a closet full of slacks. Wait wrong, if I was really a slacker those slacks would still be in a laundry basket. Anyways, It's been more than a month since Jae tagged me to participate in this blog tour. I have no real excuses besides the ones you've already heard (read?
what's the proper blogger verb here?) me talk (maybe in your head) about over and over. Which makes me wonder -- what do you guys think I sound like?Okay, well, I just went way way way down the rabbit hole of tangents that should just stop. So let's get down to business (...to defeat the Huns! Mulan, anybody? no?)
What am I working on?
Funny you should ask. It's finals week for one of the campuses under the university system I attend. So, I should probably be working on those projects instead of this post but I choose mental stability over my 15 ethics articles, research, and prepping a presentation. On the creative front, I'm working on making my work space mine. When I say mine, I mean free of clutter and full of pinteresting pinspiration.
How does my blog differ from others of its genre?
I'm not sure how to answer this because I don't think I fit a certain genre. I mean, I'm a mom but not a mom blogger. I travel, but I'm not a travel blogger. I love fashion and beauty but I'm not that type of blogger either. I would probably more closely fit into the personal lifestyle blogger category but I'm a little uncomfortable with that. The term "lifestyle blogger" gives off this odd connotation to me like "Hey, this is how to live!
" I don't want to give off that impression. I guess if someone finds a box that this blog can fit into one day, I'll accept that. I'll still more likely step out of it.Why do I write/create what I do?
This is funny because I practically write for a living, but not in a creative sense. Writing, blogging, content creating, whatever you want to call it, is my escape from the mundane. I do it to free my mind. I know that sounds cliche but that is exactly why I have always loved to write in the first place. Plus, I love to share things I find that are interesting or knowledge I've gained that might be of help. I feel like we all have a responsibility in this world to educate each other even in the smallest way. What better way to do that than to express yourself and let people know what you stand for and think is important?
How does your writing/creating process work?
It depends on what is motivating me to create or what I am creating. With blogging, I choose to only create a draft or publish a post when I have a thought that needs to be expressed. I really only blog when I have something to say or share. I want to try and keep it that way and create for myself and those who might value what I freely express. For writing in my personal life, I have a journal that I keep. The journal that I'm using now, I've had for more than two years but haven't even filled a quarter of the pages yet. In that sense, I really only do choose to write extensively when something pokes at me enough or if I've built up enough thoughts that need release.
As far as my other creative endeavors, I'm not an artist but I feel like I have an artist's heart. My grandmother was a seamstress and fashion designer, a good crop of my family member's on my dad's side of the family (my brothers and sister included, but not me) are artistically gifted, and we value art in general. I like to think that one can still create something from what has already been created. Meaning, you can take an art piece, dress it up, find inspiration from it and even make it part of your identity. For instance, my office is filled with urban art and pieces I've found in markets and little boutiques. I might have not created these pieces, but they are a reflection of me in the sense that I find a bit of my identity within each piece. I truly believe what we choose to value or admire is a reflection of who we are. We can all be artists at heart!
Now, in the spirit of sharing, I am nominating blogs that are an expression of others' creativity and free expression.
The nominees are:

Mariska of Coralynx Blog

Anne of Anne's Scribbles and Doodles

Chrizzia of Cindarella Secrets
