December Goals: Follow Through

There are only a few weeks left in 2014! Can you believe it? This year went by fast yet I feel like so much has happened! With another month wrapped up, it's time for another progress report. I would be lying if I said I was able to fulfill my November goals completely, but I think I still did pretty well.

Here's how it all went down!

  1. Get rid of clothes - I couldn't part with everything, but I did set aside a huge amount of clothes I never wear anymore. I donated these to local organizations and gave some away to my sister. I am in the process of revamping my closet to suit my personal style [even] more.
  2. Organize my desk - I wasn't able to make time to organize my personal work space at home. However, I did rearrange my work office. I found a better way to utilize my L-Shaped desk. I would include a photo, but for security purposes I can't do that. I even went out of the way and asked my supervisor if I could set up a "personal" section in my office just to lounge. I brought in a small table to put my Macbook on and work on personal projects when I need to clear my head of deadlines and business mumbo jumbo. So far, it's made me a much happier and alert staff member even at 2:30pm! Ha!
  3. Plan out the blog - With the end of the year nearing, I obviously won't be able to pack in everything that I wish I could talk about. I honestly don't have the time to blog as much as I'd like. So, this past month I stocked up my dashboard with drafts, queued posts and jotted down ideas that will come into fruition soon.
Next year I am embarking on something huge for me. Details somewhere down the road.

This December, I was supposed to be on my way to Manila. That was what I had planned several months ago, but sometimes life gets in the way and things fall through. Last year, I decided to finally go back and finish my degree that I started so long ago. I put it off because I had gone up the ladder at work and at one point I thought that my time spent at college was put to waste since I was able to accomplish a career goal without actually getting a degree. But boy, was I wrong. I'm finding myself looking for even more out of my job so the only practical thing to do is go back and finish! Right? I ultimately had to put off my plans to visit Philippines with my family because I would've had to put off school again. Which, I really don't want to do. That said, my goals this month are focused not just on school but on following through with plans that I've put on the back-burner.

  1. Apply for student financial aid [even though I don't want to] - I've been avoiding applying for financial aid for school because I didn't want the burden of student loans. When I put my studies on hold, I accumulated debt from student loans and I just didn't want to go through that again. Since I've been back to school, I've paid every semester's tuition myself and holy cow! Not to mention, I really have trimesters rather than semesters since I go to school during Spring/Summer/Fall sessions. Why am I doing this to myself? I have no idea. Anyways, I vowed that I wouldn't ask my parents for help and I've told them that they really don't need to. I'm an adult and this was my decision, plus they've got two teenagers to still worry about. However, my dad told me to be more practical and I am taking his advice because TUITION MAKES ME CRY!
  2. Have dinner with my girlfriends - I need this! That is all. We have all been so busy with our jobs, personal lives, and everything else we've got going on times a million! I do talk to them everyday via text, but it's not the same as hanging out in someone's living room, chatting and laughing over coffee, or just being in each other's presence. I'd like to make plans and actually have them pan out!
  3. Start a vacation fund - Okay, so this might be a little ambitious this time of the year since I have to still buy Christmas presents and the holidays put a dent in everyone's wallet. A girl can dream especially if that dream is about Hawaii or some other really warm place with palm trees. I've actually been meaning to do this for awhile and I finally have enough tucked away to start an actual fund. My goal is to deposit all of it to an account and just watch it grow. Eventually, I'll use it for a vacation for me and my family.

That's what's important to me this month; what's happening in your world? I'd love to hear!
