It's Wednesday! You know what that means? If you're on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook (which, I'm assuming most everyone is now unless you've been living on a remote island...in space), your feed is about to be flooded with images of women captioned with the hashtag #WCW or #WomanCrushWednesday. At this time of the week, followers from all walks of like come out from the woodworks and proclaim their admiration for the woman who has seemingly capture their hearts just with her beautiful face. There's nothing wrong with the intention of #WCW, but it misses something that goes beyond just women's aesthetics.
Women Crushing Wednesday aims to shift all of the focus from women's looks to their hustle -- the purpose that they create for themselves. Women have value, and we should empower each other by admiring more than just how beautiful we are on the outside.
Today, I am featured as a #WCW. For us women, work doesn't end when we leave the office or clock out of our jobs. The real work is at home, and sadly, we don't get enough credit for that. Sometimes, we throw ourselves under everyone else's needs. I hope to remind all women out there that as much time and work we put into others, we should expect the same care from the people in our lives. It's good to be independent, but remember that you don't have to feel alone.
